Creek is a 10 acre vineyard established in 1999
by Peter Lowrie in undulating countryside in
the Coal River Valley near Hobart, the capital city
of Australia's southerly island state of Tasmania. Named
after the creek that runs through their 50 acre property,
the varieties grown are four of the world's most noble
varieties - Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon
and Merlot. The vines are hand pruned and hand picked,
with only the very best fruit selected to make the Pages
Creek wines.
The
wines are made nearby at Winemaking Tasmania, a modern
facility headed by one of Tasmania's most experienced
winemakers, using a combination of state of the art
equipment and traditional techniques. The highest quality
oak from France's famed forests is used to mature the
wines. The first full harvest was the
2003 vintage and the Pages Creek label was launched
the following year.
Peter's
vision is to produce world class wine from
their single site vineyard on the clean and green, pristine,
island of Tasmania, located at latitude 42 degrees in
the southern ocean. Ideal growing conditions produce
distinct varietal expression and fully ripened flavors,
together with perfectly balanced natural acidity providing
both structure and cellaring potential. The wines display
cool grown elegance and ideal ripeness from the long
growing season, combining the generous flavours from
the vineyard with restraint in the winery. These finely
structured wines have moderate alcohol levels and are
especially food compatible.
